Germany Day 2: Rundkapelle

The Rundkapelle (Round Chapel) is a really special place. Ancient, dating back to a dark ages for in 793 AD, the neighborhood here is called Altenfurt (Old Fort). The chapel was built in 1264 and damaged by bombings in 1943, then rebuilt in 1950. The ancient spirits of the place still imbue the land.

These 2 little round parts are one building. The smaller is a chapel just for Mary and people are not allowed in.

The campus has 3 buildings, one with a thick if sporadic thatching of moss.

Ooops.

The property is described as an "oasis of peace", and I certainly felt the gentlest of spirits there. It was the epitome of Grace and tranquility. 

The grounds are serene with a small creek, a still pond mirroring the trees and flowers. Three large golden fish meander in the nearly imperceptible current, and while I was there, three ducks appeared, making a double trinity of animals.

This shell-shaped bit of lichen is very reminiscent of the shell symbols that mark El Camino de Santigo. The shell is a symbol of the spiritual pilgrims on that path.

The chapel is tjny and might fit 12 or 15 people. The sanctity of the artifacts is just tremendously old. I've never felt anything like it.

No altar is complete without a snow globe.
