Day 0.1

Getting out of LA was rough. It took a lot longer than expected to finish packing and shipping my stuff, and then packing up and cleaning. It was frustrating, but Caitlin was a huge help to move things along and we had fun despite it. She keeps reminding me that moving is hard. The business of life - shopping, packing, cleaning, errands - all take about three times longer than I anticipate, and normally I'm good at sticking to a schedule, but man, not this time!! We had fun anyway. We spent the afternoon walking Venice Beach and exploring the California Science Center. The beach was littered with shells that look like butterflies. Beautiful, but disturbing as it became apparent that some sort of mass die-off had occurred.

We couldn't pass up the temple to NASA. How could you?? The space exhibit strewn with satellites, foil clothing, space vehicles... Our Inner TechnoGeeks were drooling!!

​ The evening was magical in and under the rose garden. The august architecture was the perfect backdrop as we snoozed in the grass, and wandered in a forest of flowers that seemed to be grown just for us. We walked right under the arching rosebushes and did a photo shoot up the stems to capture the bottoms of the flowers, bowls of fading light. It was enchanting beyond measure, especially since if we had been even 4 inches taller, this would not have been possible. I gained new real appreciation for my body. Been so short, while often frustrating, is truly a gift. Walking under flowers is an extraordinary experience. Adventures in shortness!

Dinner was at In N Out by LAX where we'd last eaten together in Nov after a 3 mile hike in Griffith Park. We tried to catch shots of the low roaring airplanes that barely missed landing on our heads - a quintessential Westchester experience - and one of the COOLEST experiences ever!! These are impossible to do justice to with a cell phone camera and is one thing I will sorely miss about LA.
